What’s Up With…

great shows going off the air too early?

Today I decided to write a fun and opinionated post about TV shows and how it seems (to me) that so many amazing shows don’t last as long as they should. Heck, I find that many shows that are cancelled early on are much better than some that last for many seasons. While there are some shows that I’ve loved (and love) that have lasted many years, there are some that I feel have had a lifespan that was cut far too short. Let me give you some examples! These are in no specific order.

Early Edition: A great show starring the talented Kyle Chandler. The show was about Gary Hobson (Chandler) who received tomorrow’s newspaper today. With the paper, he went about his life helping others in need. While the show lasted four years, it didn’t get an official ending. What’s up with that?!

Sirens: I discovered Sirens on Netflix so maybe I’m just as much to blame (though in my defense, I don’t have cable) and let me tell you, I found it hilarious. It has wonderful characters and is just really fun to watch. You know how many seasons it lasted? TWO! I’m sorry but a comedy that good should have had a longer shelf life.

The Finder: I just started watching The Finder on Netflix and man am I hooked! The show is super creative and once again, has talented and memorable characters. This show only lasted one year and for the life of me, I can’t understand why. I think that networks need to give shows more time to prove themselves.

Thieves: Another show I loved watching that only lasted a year! I remember thinking this show was SO good. Plus, it had Melissa George and John Stamos in it – two great actors!

These are just a few examples (trust me, there are A LOT more) of shows that have gone off the air, in my opinion, far too quickly. Meanwhile shows like Greys Anatomy, The Simpsons, and many others are still going on! I know that there is a huge fan base for some of these shows (not sure why, but that’s a different story altogether), but I think that there must be something wrong with the system. It’s not that shows I’m not interested in last so long – I understand that people have different tastes than me and plus, I like some shows that have been on a while (Supernatural, for one).

However, what I don’t understand how a good show like The Finder, for example was only on for one season. Perhaps the network didn’t advertise it well or perhaps they should have timed it differently? All I know is that many great shows have been deprived a long, good run. Can someone explain this to me?

What shows have you loved that ended way too soon?

REC’D:

1.) Legends of Tomorrow: I was late to the party, but I think I’m caught up now. This is a great show and the White Canary kicks ass! The only thing is that if you’ve never seen The Flash or Arrow, you might be a little confused.

2.) Man with a Plan: While I doubt it will last very long because networks never seem to give Matt Leblanc shows the chances they deserve (other than Friends, of course!), I thought Man with a Plan was really good. Matt Leblanc is hilarious and I liked Liza Snyder too. The show is just really funny so far!

3.) Frequency: Peyton List and Riley Smith are great in Frequency. I also love the idea of father and daughter being able to communicate through the radio, whilst years apart from each other. In addition to the concept being cool, I like the way they show the cause and effect of changing time. The only issue I have with the show is that it can be a bit repetitive at times.

WRECK’D

Sadly I feel like a lot of my favorite shows have gone down hill. Here’s a few:

1.) The Flash: I was already getting irritated with Barry changing things so many freakin’ times in the past, but once I found out there was yet another ‘speedster’, I couldn’t take it any longer! I think the writers realized that they made a huge mistake, but I don’t think they were able to fix it. It’s too bad too, this show could have been amazing! I’ve officially given up on it.

2.) Supergirl: I could go on and on complaining about this show. Supergirl was never strong or believable as a superhero to begin with, but now she has like twenty different people helping her! I like her character as an every day human being, but as a superhero, she’s very disappointing. I feel like part of the show’s purpose is to show that women are just as strong as men, but it fails miserably in trying to demonstrate this. Again, this is a show that I’ve stopped watching.

3.) Arrow: While I haven’t stopped watching Arrow quite yet, I’m getting dangerously close. After Oliver’s amazing team all went their separate ways (the characters are still in the show, but have tiny parts), I’m just not feeling it. Oliver has assembled a new team but none of the members really stick out and the one who does sticks out in a bad way – she’s utterly annoying. The only good thing is that Stephen Amell remains amazing and so does Emily Bett Rickards. David Ramsey and Paul Blackthorne are also still great, but their parts are so small that you can hardly say they’re in the show at all. I’m hoping that changes soon, but I don’t have much hope for the show.

Time To Rate Some Shows!

Hey guys! So it’s been pretty exciting watching the new shows for Fall. I’ve decided to rate the ones I’ve watched so far! For the record, I still have some more to watch!

THE GOOD

The Good Place – 4.5/5 stars

The Good Place is hilarious! I love Kristen Bell and Ted Danson. I also love William Jackson Harper’s character! If you want to watch a show that’ll crack you up, watch The Good Place!

Kevin Can Wait 4/5 Stars

Kevin Can Wait is another really funny show. While I’m not in love with the character Chale and while the acting isn’t as good as in The Good Place, it’s still a great, funny show!

Timeless – 4.5/5 Stars

So I was really excited for this show and while at first I was a little worried that the acting wouldn’t be very good (I’d only seen one of the actors in something – Matt Latner in the newer version of 90210), I ended up LOVING the show and loving all the main characters!

THE BAD

MacGyver 1/5 Stars

No, no, no! I watched the first episode and was not impressed. AT ALL! I thought it might actually be good, but it wasn’t. Now maybe I was trying too hard to compare it to the original (which was great and can be found on Netflix!), but I was very disappointed. First of all, way too much of the show was narrated. Second of all, they labeled on the show like what everything was. I think we know what a paper clip looks like!

Can you guys believe this is the last day of September? I can’t! Anyway, there are tons of shows I didn’t expect to like but did! Here are just a few!

1.) Supernatural – I didn’t expect to like this show at all but man am I happy I decided to give it a try! I LOVE it!

2.) Warehouse 13 – I thought the show would be really lame. I was wrong! It was awesome!

3.) One Tree Hill – This isn’t normally my type of show, but I found that I really enjoyed it! It’s a great show with great characters!

4.) Gossip Girl – While not a show I’d really want to watch again all the way through, I found that I liked Gossip Girl way more than I expected.

September Character Photo Challenge – September 29th

There are literally tons of shows that I feel ended way too soon. It seems like networks have a big thing for ending really good shows these days and keeping on ones that aren’t so good. I’m not saying it happens with every show, but it happens a lot! I’m going to list a couple of shows that I wish lasted longer than they did!

Thieves – The show didn’t last long at all and it was on a long time ago, but I remember loving it!

Joey – Joey was another show that I thought was really good (and funny!) and it didn’t last very long. What the heck?!

Lois and Clark – This show lasted a long time, but I feel that it was so good that they could have kept going with it!

September Character Photo Challenge – September 25th

Today’s challenge is most frustrating love triangle! While this isn’t a complete triangle, I absolutely hate the Lorelai – Chris – Lorelai – Luke relationship in Gilmore Girls. As you all know, I love Lorelai’s character, but I found myself often wanting to yell at the screen, “Pick one already!”. I hated how Lorelai one minute loved Luke and the next, was found sleeping with Christopher! Come on! By the way, I’m a fan of Luke!

September Character Photo Challenge – September 24th

Today’s challenge is almost too easy! There’s one character that leaps to mind right away who made the same mistakes over and over and over and…you get the drift! Sam Winchester from Supernatural! I love him but how many times can you befriend demons and drink demon blood before you learn your lesson? Seriously!

September Character Photo Challenge – September 23rd

So I’m sure that if I thought long and hard about today’s challenge, I’d come up with a better answer. However, I was recently watching Frasier and wondered what happened to Roz’s boyfriend, Roger (Tony Goldwyn). I know that he didn’t technically just disappear (they did kind of explain it, he broke up with Roz), but the break up didn’t really make sense. After all, before they broke up, they seemed to really like each other. In fact, if anything, Roz wasn’t sure how she felt about Roger at first due to his job – not the other way around! Anyway, I really liked Roger’s character and hated how they got rid of him! I guess they either wanted to explore the possibility of Roz and Frasier together or have Roz end up alone? Not really sure!
