Please, Don’t Add To The Chaos!

Okay, many of you know that I’m not happy about Trump becoming president. However, the news about smashing of windows and other violent acts makes me sad. We are supposed to be upset that Trump is president because of his violent thinking – why do so many individuals insist on adding to the violence? This is one thing that I will never understand.

Maybe some people think that being violent and adding to the chaos will get Trump’s attention. The thing is though that being violent is just going to show Trump that violence is the answer – and it’s not. If anything, we should be trying even harder now to be kind to others and to contribute peace to the world.

I know this is a difficult day for many – it’s difficult for me too. However, please try to have faith in yourselves and those around you. There…

Election Signs and Cruelty

Okay, first let me begin by saying that I’m not really pro-choice. I don’t like the idea of abortion AT ALL and quite frankly, I don’t see myself ever being able to take away a baby’s life (even if it’s not technically a life yet – I know there’s a lot of debate about that). However, I do understand how hard it must be for women who become pregnant (especially due to rape) to have to choose between taking a care of a child that they’re not ready for or having to choose abortion. It’s a horrible choice to have to make. Period.

Yesterday while out, my brother pointed out an election sign. The sign was for Trump. As many of you know, I don’t like him and I DO NOT support him. That has nothing to do though with why I’m writing this post though. The reason for this…

Inspirational Quote Time!

As many of you probably know, I’m a huge fan of Jewel’s music and her lyrics. Just moments ago, I visited her website ( and discovered this awesome quote by her!

“Find the song only you can sing and offer the world.” -Jewel

Also, this was re-tweeted on Jewel’s Twitter page. Du to the fact that we talk about Feminism on this blog and since there’s been the reoccurring issue with Trump’s horrible behavior, I thought I would post this!

Spreading The Good Word

I know from the title, it sounds like there’s going to be some proselytizing in this post.  I assure you, that’s not the case (it simply sounded witty in my head).

Our dear friend, Ben from Meerkat Musings & leader of Coalition Of The Brave recently attended Star Trek Europe.  Not only did he get to meet the amazing Christopher Lloyd & the fantastic George Takei (for which I’m incredibly jealous), but he also chatted with Marina Sirtis, who played Deanna Troi on The Next Generation.

After the convention, Ben tweeted with Ms. Sirtis & she was kind enough to retweet a link to Serenity.  We here at the Serenity team couldn’t be more blown away by both Ben & Ms. Sirtis’s kindness in getting the word out about our blog.

Thank you, to both of them, & to everyone who reads our blog.

World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day!

The purpose of today is to raise awareness about mental health and learn how to have an open and welcoming dialogue about it. This is an incredibly important topic that many people shy away from because they don’t know how to address it properly, or they let false assumptions scare them out of talking about it.

The stigma that surrounds mental health is incredibly detrimental to those who deal with it, and unfortunately people fail to realize that everyone has to take care of their mental health just like they have to take care of their physical health. I started a piece a while ago about my experiences as an ally and addressing mental health, so hopefully I can finish it today. Until then, I’ll leave you with this:

“Never give up on someone with a mental illness. We ‘I’ is replaced by ‘we’, ‘illness’ becomes ‘wellness’ “

Realizing You’re Amazing!

Realizing that you’re amazing – it’s not always easy, is it? While some of us constantly hear praises and words of positivity from others, some of us are used to hearing more negativity than we would like. Whether this negativity comes from the mouths of others or from our own thoughts, we need to realize just how amazing we are!

Today I went to the therapist and while we were discussing things, I realized just how much progress I’ve made. I still have a long way to go, but I’ve done a lot of great things. I’ve managed to get much more involved with my writing and I’ve taken more steps to get through my anxiety.

While I definitely hear praises and positive comments, I also hear people saying things about me that aren’t so kind. Unfortunately, I think a lot of people deal with this. We hear rude comments…

Rae’s Rules to Remember #58: You Need to Vote

So while I don’t usually post political things, I absolutely agree with Rae and felt the need to reblog this fabulous post!

When the presidential race first started, I supported Bernie Sanders. Out of all of the options I truly felt that he was the best. Now that he’s out of the race, I’ve had to jump on the Hillary bandwagon. Of course, I’m all for having the first female president… I just didn’t want it to be her. She’s not the perfect candidate, but I have to accept the fact that she’s better than Trump.

Donald Trump making it this far in the election has basically shown that anyone can run for president, and that no real political experience or knowledge is necessary. This is not okay. As a woman of color from a lower middle class background, a feminist, and an ally, I cannot (in any way) justify voting for Trump.

Let’s be honest here. He’s not brave and he doesn’t “tell it like it is.” He’s an overprivileged, racist…
