Inspirational Quote Time!

As many of you probably know, I’m a huge fan of Jewel’s music and her lyrics. Just moments ago, I visited her website ( and discovered this awesome quote by her!

“Find the song only you can sing and offer the world.” -Jewel

Also, this was re-tweeted on Jewel’s Twitter page. Du to the fact that we talk about Feminism on this blog and since there’s been the reoccurring issue with Trump’s horrible behavior, I thought I would post this!

June Photo A Day Challenge & Book Challenge – June 13th

June Movie Photo Challenge:

Made from a Book:

So while I do have this movie, I’m feeling kind of anxious and don’t feel like digging for it, so I’m going to use a picture from Google Images. Also, I know Stephen King would probably hate that I’m choosing this movie since he supposedly doesn’t like it, but that’s too bad. I like it! I admit though that I’ve actually never read the book to compare it to.

Wanna participate? Check out the schedule below!

June Book Challenge:

While I didn’t feel up to digging for The Shining, I did know exactly where this book was. I’m getting a little creative here, because honestly, this is probably the only book that really makes me want to travel. It’s a tour book that I got from a Jewel concert that I went to!

See schedule below! For more info on the book challenge click here!

May Photo A Day & Book Challenge – May 25th

This is by far my favorite CD! I highly recommend you guys  check it out!

May Book Challenge:

I’m not sure if I still have these books in the basement or not, but here’s the longest series I’ve ever read!

April Photo A Day Challenge – April 18th

So this is kind of a weird one because the word “idol” means some one or thing that you worship (leave it to a former English major to take things literally!) and I don’t really “worship” any of these people. However, I do look up to people for different reasons, so without further ado…

When it comes to people, I look up to my Grandma (who passed away) and my dad. I’m not going to post pictures of them though so let’s post pictures of celebrities that I look up to for different reasons!

Fashion Idol:

Gwen Stefani! I love that she can pretty much pull off anything and look amazing! Plus I love her more casual looks and some of her more funky ones too! Especially the ones from the 90s! Her music is awesome too! She just wears such cool stuff!

Jewel! I know you guys are probably tired of me saying this, but I love Jewel’s music! She has such an amazing voice and for the most part, she writes all of her own music. I really respect a musician that does that. Also, while there are a couple of small things about her that really annoy me, I love that she’s never been one to show up in the news for anything negative. She’s grounded and talented and I think that’s amazing. Her concert was also the first one I ever went to. It was amazing!

April Music Tag!!

So I’ve just been nominated by the wonderful C. over at You’re Not Alone In This World for the April Music Tag! I am super excited (seriously, you have no idea!) to participate. Thank you so much C. for the nomination! Also, the tag she designed is really pretty! Without further ado, here we go!

The Rules:

  1.  Put the picture on your post.
  2. Thank and Tag the person who tagged/nominated you for this tag!
  3.  Tag who ever you’d like! As many blogs as you’d like!
  4.  Have fun!

The Questions:

One: “Name a song that reminds you of high school” :

Nobody’s Fool – Avril Lavigne

For starters there was a rumor that went around in high school about me that wasn’t true. Also I think a lot of people judged each other. By the way, this song is really good – it’s when Avril Lavigne was still a good singer!

This song is a great song that I think describes high school in some ways. I went to a Catholic school and I learned a lot about myself and about religion. I met some wonderful people. I also learned that I am strong and that others have a great deal of respect for me. By the way, if you’ve never listened to this song (Hands by Jewel) you definitely should!

Two: “Everyone has that one song that makes them tear up, what’s yours?

I want this as my wedding song!

Three: “What’s that one song that everyone hates, but you secretly loved?”

Ha, I’m not really sure! I know some people hate disco and that I like some of it! Also, my mom hates the new Gwen Stefani disk though I love it! 🙂

Four: “The last song you listened to?”

Oh jeez, this is hard! On my iPod I think it was Aint No Rest for the Wicked by Cage the Elephant. I also just bought the new Gwen Stefani disk that I love!

Five: “Song you discovered on YouTube?”

Not really sure, but I have discovered some Michael Jackson music videos that I’d never seen before.

Six: “Favorite Band”

Seven: “Favorite Solo Artist”

Eight: “First CD to own”

I’m embarrassed to say this, but I’m not sure. I’m guessing something by Jewel.

Nine: “Artist that left too soon”

I didn’t like him as a person due to his actions, but I did love Michael Jackson’s music. When it comes to singers or bands that I think didn’t last long enough in terms of being good, this includes Avril Lavigne and Maroon 5. I used to love them but I feel like they’ve gone down hill. Especially Avril Lavigne. Seriously.

Ten: “A song from the year you where born?”

Pass. Too personal!

Eleven: “Group you wish never split up?”

I’m not really sure. A lot of the groups I like are still together! It would be cool if all the Beatles were still around and making music.

Twelve: “Song from your favorite music genre?”

Hmm…not sure. My favorite song is probably a Jewel song, but I think she considers her music country now, and I’m not a fan of country. Though at the time of making my favorite CD by her, she wasn’t considered country. I don’t know my favorite song in general, but lyrically it’s New Wild West by Jewel, so let’s go with that!

Thirteen: “Song you can’t help but dance to”

And so many others!

Music Tag!

Stephanie over at Stephellanious tagged all of her readers for the following music tag! I must say that I’m pretty excited to participate!

The Rules:

1.List the first 10 songs that come on shuffle (no skipsies).
2.Then write your favorite lyric (or verse) from each song.
3.Tag/link others (I changed this a little. It had said to tag your enemies. But…that seemed silly!)

1.) Better that we Break – Maroon 5

Saw you sitting all alone
You’re fragile and you’re cold, but that’s all right
Life these days is getting rough
They’ve knocked you down and beat you up
But it’s just a rollercoaster anyway, yeah

2.) Perfectly Clear – Jewel

But please, don’t open your mouth, my dear
I can read all the signs
I can take it from here
There’s no need to explain,
It’s perfectly clear

3.) Bad Day – Daniel Powter

Sometimes the system goes on the blink
And the whole thing turns out wrong
You might not make it back and you know
That you could be well, oh, that strong
And I’m not wrong

4.) This is How A Heart Breaks – Rob Thomas

Don’t you wanna go for a ride
Down to the other side
Feels so good you could cry
Now won’t you do what I told you
I remember when you used to be shy
Yeah, once we were so fine
You and I why you gotta make it so hard on me

5.) Jessie’s Girl – Rick Springfield

And I’m lookin’ in the mirror all the time
Wonderin’ what she don’t see in me
I’ve been funny; I’ve been cool with the lines
Ain’t that the way love’s supposed to be?

6.) Snooze Button Blues – Jewel

I looked around
Two blood shot eyes
Stared a hole inside that clock
Hopin’ it would die

7.) 18 ‘Till I Die – Bryan Adams

Anyway – I just wanna say
Why bother with what happened yesterday
It’s not my style – I live for the minute
If ya wanna stay young – get both feet in it – 18 til I die
A ‘lil bit of this – a ‘lil bit of that
‘Lil bit of everything – gotta get on track
It’s not how ya look, it’s what ya feel inside
I don’t care when – I don’t need ta know why

8.) Black or White – Michael Jackson

I said if you’re thinkin’ of being my baby
It don’t matter if you’re black or white

I said if you’re thinkin’ of being my brother
It don’t matter if you’re black or white

9.) 1999 – Prince
I was dreamin’ when I wrote this
So sue me if I go 2 fast
But life is just a party, and parties weren’t meant 2 last
War is all around us, my mind says prepare 2 fight
So if I gotta die I’m gonna listen 2 my body tonight

10.) Hit Me With Your Best Shot – Pat Benatar

You come on with a “come on”
You don’t fight fair
But that’s OK, see if I care
Knock me down, it’s all in vain
I’ll get right back on my feet again

Hit me with your best shot
Why don’t you hit me
With your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Fire Away

Energizing Songs

I’m in a bit of a musical mood this morning, so I thought I’d suggest some songs to help you feel motivated! You can check out videos to these songs by clicking on the links!

Wind It Up – Gwen Stefani – The Sweet Escape

Now That You Got It – Gwen Stefani – The Sweet Escape

*I know these songs are older, but Gwen Stefani and No Doubt have some great upbeat songs!

American Girl – Train – My Private Nation

Fergalicious – Fergie – The Dutchess

Paint It Black – Vanessa Carlton – Be Not Nobody (I know this isn’t originally her song, but I LOVE this version!)

Yes You Can – Jewel – 0304

Call Me – Blondie – Greatest Hits Redux

*Like any of these songs? Have any songs that make you feel energized? Feel free to mention them in the comment section. Please do not post any videos though. I have nothing against other blogs that do, but I don’t wish for my blog to become really slow due to this. Thank you for understanding!

“You’re Weird”

“You’re weird.” “You’re strange.” “Why are you like this?” “No one else acts this way!”

Chances are that if you deal with anxiety or some sort of mental health issue, you’ve heard some of these rude comments. As ironic as it is, after writing about how some people can be really kind, one of my own family members told me that I was “weird” while I was having an anxious moment. As many of you know, these comments, especially from those who we love, can really hurt.

As I was sitting where I was feeling anxious, I was trying to remember all of the progress I’ve made in general and as of late. I was starting to feel better but still felt stressed. Then, when my relative said what they did, I must admit that it just made me feel worse.

I know that not everyone suffers from anxiety. I know that the way I act due to my anxiety may not always be considered “normal”, but I struggle and I try very hard to get through this. While I try to focus on the fact that I’m trying really hard and that some people will simply never understand what I go through, it still doesn’t always make it easy to deal with people who are unkind.

I’d like to tell you all something. I know it’s difficult to see your friends and family (or maybe even others) put you down because of what you go through but please remember that the way they treat you is not your fault! Some people just don’t know how to act in certain situations. I’m not saying that it makes it okay, but sometimes it’s just how it is. Also, sometimes when someone doesn’t understand something, they tend to be rude instead of trying to understand or doing research. It’s unfortunate, but true.

To all of you who may be reading this and don’t struggle with a mental health issue but know someone who does, please try to be kind. If you don’t know what to say or do, ask the individual. If you don’t understand and can’t find it in your heart to care, then fine, but don’t be cruel. If you don’t understand but want to help, then try your hardest. Just because you don’t understand something doesn’t mean you have to be cruel about it.

*If you’d like to hear a great song about the importance of sensitivity towards others’ feelings, please check out the following link. The second video under the comment section is I’m Sensitive by Jewel. Also, by clicking the link, you will be directed to Kaylaa’s blog over at CommonSenseGal.

3 Days 3 Quotes Challenge-Part 2

For my first quote for the second part of my 3 Days 3 Quotes challenge, I’ve chose to use lyrics from the song A Life Uncommon by Jewel.

“And lend your voices only to sounds of freedom
No longer lent your strength to that
which you wish to be free from
Fill you lives with love and bravery
And we shall lead a life uncommon” –Jewel, Life Uncommon

I love this song and I love these lyrics! These four lines especially illustrate how we have to treat anxiety. Instead of giving into fear and allowing anxiety to make us feel weak and unable to do things, we have to stand up to it and prove to ourselves that we have the strength to get over our obstacles.

So much of our time is spent on worrying, so much of our strength is put to something that we don’t even enjoy doing! Instead of using our strength to accomplish our goals, we put it towards obsessing!

Jewel states in this song that the way to freedom is to stop putting our efforts towards something so toxic. If we lend our strength to our fears, they’re only going to grow stronger. However, if we fill our lives with things such as hope, bravery, and love and we show ourselves that we have the strength to power through our struggles, we’ll live a life that we enjoy!

Please, please, please do yourselves a favor and try to listen to this song, it really is great! The song is off of Jewel’s CD “Spirit”. What songs make you guys feel stronger? Feel free to let me know!

When Things Seem Impossible

Some days our anxiety is really difficult to get through. Our day may be going fine and then we experience a moment of anxiety or a panic attack that seems to take over the rest of our day or at least a much bigger part than we would have hoped. We may even hear the often heard words of someone saying, “Just go and do what you need to, it’s not that difficult”, when really to us, what we need to do seems impossible.

I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve experienced this and I actually just went through it about an hour or so ago. Something that should have been really simple for me to do caused me a great deal of anxiety and before you know it, I was feeling a great deal of panic. My dad who I love and who supports me the most out of everyone I know got frustrated and without really wanting to, made me feel guilty for struggling so much. I was admittedly frustrated to and as much as I wanted to just tell myself that I was stronger than my anxiety and get up and do what I had to, I didn’t feel like that was working. I didn’t feel like I could just get up and do what I had to. As I mentioned before, when it comes to anxiety, the Nike slogan of “Just do It” doesn’t always seem to cut it.

One thing that I did forget in the moment though, was the good piece of advice I just recently read. Now, do I think it would have instantly cured all my problems? Probably not. Do I think it would have helped? Maybe a little.

The other day I wrote about Jewel and her new book, Jewel-Never Broken. Songs are Only Half the Story. There was a good piece of advice in there that I shared and I would like to share it again and explain why I think I should use it more often and why I think others should as well. This is what the advice was:

“Find the antidote. If you are consumed by self-doubting or self-loathing internal voices, ask yourself what the opposite of those thoughts are. If you are afraid you are not capable of something of something, intervene each time you think that, and replace it with a new thought: I am capable. Do it again and again until you feel your anxiety lessen. With time and practice, the anxiety will subside altogether.”

So why do I think this is such a good piece of advice? This is why. Anxiety is always causing us to doubt ourselves. Anxiety is overwhelming and because of this trait, it can cause us to feel much weaker than we actually are. However, we need to try and stop thinking so negatively and think the other way around. This may not be easy, but once we start telling ourselves positive messages and showing ourselves that we are capable of getting through our anxiety, we will have more and more proof that we really are stronger than our fears.

I’m honestly not writing this so that you go and read Jewel’s book, I honestly don’t care if you do or not (what I mean is, I’m not trying to make you buy the book. Nor am I trying to advertise for Jewel!). I’m telling you this because I found this piece of advice helpful and think it makes sense. I think, for me, anxiety is always making me feel incapable of getting through my anxiety, when really, I know deep down that I am capable.

If you do check out Jewel’s book though, make sure you check out the afterward. I honestly skimmed the majority of the book but found the afterward really helpful and inspiring.
