The Stranger – A Book Review

Copyright: 2016
Rating: 4.5/5

My Synopsis:

Everyone has their secrets – especially in Harlan Coben’s, The Stranger. In the city of Beachwood, OH, a man mostly known as ‘The Stranger’, goes out of his way to expose the secrets of others. When Adam Price is told something that changes his life forever, he is forced to deal with a whirlwind of emotions and make decisions he never thought he’d have to make.

My Opinion:

Who knew that a story about someone exposing secrets could be so entertaining and take you on such a wild ride? Harlan Coben once again puts you on the edge of your seat as you wait excitedly to find out what happens next as Adam Price grapples with the fact that his life is far from perfect. The Stranger is full of wonderful plot twists and characters that you find yourself both loving and hating – sometimes even wondering how you should feel.

The great thing about The Stranger is not only is it fast-paced and exciting to read, but it also makes you think about the human condition. Coben manages to make us think without lecturing; making The Stranger both a thrilling and thought-provoking read!

Rating: 5/5

My Synopsis:

Dr. David Beck loved his wife and eight years after that horrible night at the lake, he still holds a special place in his heart for her. However, he also regrets that he couldn’t help her and that the last sound he heard from her that horrible night was the sound of her screaming.

Eight years later, David’s world is turned upside down. He begins receiving emails from an unknown source. Before too long, Beck is running for his life trying to uncover a huge secret.

My Opinion:

This book is amazing! Re-reading it made me remember once again why it is I love Harlan Coben’s writing so much. His books are fast-paced and all you want to do is tag along on the wonderful journey that his words take you on.

Coben creates characters that you can relate to and that you find yourself wanting to be friends with. He does a great job of making you feel like you’re part of the story, something that I don’t think all writers are good at achieving.

Tell No One is a book that has you constantly flipping the pages for more. The book has tons of twists of turns and leaves you wanting more. I fell in love with Dr. David Beck and I’m not ashamed to say that at the end of the story, I felt deep relief for the characters. Heck, I almost cried!

If you want to read a book that you can really sink your teeth into and that will surprise you in fantastic ways, then I definitely recommend you read Tell No One! I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Rating: 4.5/5

My Synopsis:

Ray Levine was once a photojournalist. However, after losing the love of his life on that horrible day, seventeen years ago, things haven’t been the same. Now Ray finds himself taking pictures of people who want nothing more but to impress those around them and seem more popular than they really are.

Megan Pierce has a normal life – nice house, husband, and two kids. Megan didn’t always live the typical life of a soccer mom, though. No, Megan has kept a secret for years – even from the ones she loves the most!

For years, Detective Broome hasn’t been able to let one of his cases go. On the anniversary of a horrible occurrence, he visits the wife of a man who has been missing for seventeen years. Will Broome be able to put this case to rest? Only time will tell.

My Opinion:

This book was amazing! This book just reminded me why Harlan Coben in my favorite author. Stay Close promises to be fast-paced and exciting, having you second guess your predictions at every corner. While a lot of books I read seem to have parts that are hard to get through, this book doesn’t. It was fast, exciting, and unbelievably hard to put down. Once you reach a certain point, you just can’t get enough!

Harlan Coben creates characters that you instantly fall in love with. Whether you like them or not, you feel as if you’ve known them all your life. Stay Close is a book full of imagery – both welcoming and terrifying, and there isn’t any doubt that you’ll feel part of the adventure that unfolds in this fantastic novel!

I absolutely, 100% recommend you read this book!

New York Times By The Book Tag!

Hi guys! I just saw this awesome tag over at Poppy’s Best of Books and thought I would participate! Please feel free to do the same and let me know if you do! Thanks!

Questions:

What book is on your nightstand right now?

Stay Close by Harlan Coben! I was re-reading Wicked but it was going kind of slow. My mom found me Stay Close really cheap so I started reading that instead!

If you could meet one author (living or dead) who would it be? What would you ask?

Harlan Coben is my favorite actor but I think I’d have to go with John Saul. I struggle a little writing imagery and Saul is amazing at it!

What books might we be surprised to see on your shelf?

Maybe the couple of non-fiction books I have? I don’t know.

How do you organise your personal library?

Not very well, actually! It’s sort of my author and title, but also by size. I refuse to put a small book under a big one even if that’s how it would go alphabetically! There’s a such thing as something looking awkward!

What book have you always meant to read but haven’t gotten round to yet?

A lot of books that I haven’t finished (I know, I should be ashamed – and am!). Some of these include Zoo by James Patterson and Missing You by Harlan Coben.

Disappointing, overrated, just not good: what book did you feel you were supposed to like but didn’t?

I don’t really know. I do know though that even though it’s well written, I find Harry Potter highly overrated!

What kind of stories are you drawn to?

Thrillers and more recently, horror stories. I also love books with well written imagery! I like to be able to see with my mind’s eye what’s going on!

What do you plan to read next?

Hopefully I’ll be able to re-read Wicked. I really do want to.

I Tag…

Everyone, especially book lovers!

Across the Universe!

This is a great movie! When I saw the commercials for it, I thought it would be creepy but I ended up loving it! It’s done so well and the music is great! To be honest, while I had obviously heard of The Beatles and their music before, this movie made me appreciate them even more! Also, the singers that they choose to sing the famous band’s songs are fantastic and I even own the Soundtrack! If you haven’t done so already, please check out this fantastic movie!

Unlike Across the Universe, I don’t own this movie to have taken a picture of it. However, it was a fairly good film and was done really well! I loved how, for the majority, the movie was in black and white and then started to slowly turn to color. The movie also has a not so subtle moral, which I also think was done creatively!

May Book Challenge:

While I’m not a fan of repeating images, I thought I’d use one of the pictures I already posted. In the book, Fool Me Once by Harlan Coben, the main character, Maya, has a daughter. While in many ways I think Maya’s a good mother, I also think that she makes a huge error in parenting. If anyone has read or does read the book, I’d be happy to hear your opinions on whether or not you think Maya is a good mom!
