New York Times By The Book Tag!

Hi guys! I just saw this awesome tag over at Poppy’s Best of Books and thought I would participate! Please feel free to do the same and let me know if you do! Thanks!

What book is on your nightstand right now?

Stay Close by Harlan Coben! I was re-reading Wicked but it was going kind of slow. My mom found me Stay Close really cheap so I started reading that instead!

If you could meet one author (living or dead) who would it be? What would you ask?

Harlan Coben is my favorite actor but I think I’d have to go with John Saul. I struggle a little writing imagery and Saul is amazing at it!

What books might we be surprised to see on your shelf?

Maybe the couple of non-fiction books I have? I don’t know.

How do you organise your personal library?

Not very well, actually! It’s sort of my author and title, but also by size. I refuse to put a small book under a big one even if that’s how it would go alphabetically! There’s a such thing as something looking awkward!

What book have you always meant to read but haven’t gotten round to yet?

A lot of books that I haven’t finished (I know, I should be ashamed – and am!). Some of these include Zoo by James Patterson and Missing You by Harlan Coben.

Disappointing, overrated, just not good: what book did you feel you were supposed to like but didn’t?

I don’t really know. I do know though that even though it’s well written, I find Harry Potter highly overrated!

What kind of stories are you drawn to?

Thrillers and more recently, horror stories. I also love books with well written imagery! I like to be able to see with my mind’s eye what’s going on!

What do you plan to read next?

Hopefully I’ll be able to re-read Wicked. I really do want to.

I Tag…

Everyone, especially book lovers!

Reader Confession Tag

Reader Confession Tag

Hey guys! I saw this tag over at Kendra’s blog, Reads and Treats! She invited everyone to participate! Thanks Kendra!

1. Have you ever damaged a book?

Sadly yes. There’s actually also a funny story behind one incident. I was in first grade and I must have book one book within another. My teacher gave us all a lecture on how wrong it was and how it messed up the spine. I remember just sitting there feeling so guilty! She never found out it was me.

2. Have you ever damaged a borrowed book?

Hmmm…not sure. Does from the library count? I know that someone once damaged mine. I was so mad!

3. How long does it take you to read a book?

If I really like it, a couple of weeks. Sometimes I read books really slow though.

4. Books that you haven’t finished?

Sadly, a lot. I love to read, it’s just a bad habit. Let’s see there’s Zoo by James Patterson (a good show by the way), The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, and Missing You by Harlan Coben. These are the ones that come to mind anyway. I liked them, I just never finished. 😦

5. Hyped/Popular books that you don’t like?

Not sure. Too be honest, I don’t really read popular books. I did read Harry Potter and while I liked it and thought they were really good, I did think they were overrated!

6. Is there a book you wouldn’t tell anyone you were reading?

Not really.

7. How many books do you own?

Hmmm….maybe twenty to thirty? I know that number must seem really low to some people!

8. Are you a fast reader or a slow reader?

I’d say I’m in the middle. I think I was a lot faster when I was younger.

9. Do you like to buddy read?

I’m not quite sure what that means. If that means that I read some and someone else reads some, then no. If it means that I read the same thing as someone else and then we talk about it, then I guess. I hope that made sense!

10. Do you read better in your head or out loud?

In my head. I read pretty well out loud but if I get self-conscious then I start tripping over some of the words. :/

11. If you were only allowed to own one book, what would it be and why?

Wow, that’s tough! Maybe Dead Lines by Greg Bear or a book by John Saul? What a horrible question!

The Book Blogger Test!

Book Blogger Test

So while I wouldn’t really consider myself a “book blogger”, I do like to read and I occasionally do write book reviews on here. So, without further ado, I’m going to participate in this test. I’d like to thank Kendra from Reads and Treats for nominating all those with B, M, or S in their names!

1.) When people write in books.

2.) When you read a book from the library and some of the pages stick together or are ripped out!

3.) When at the end of the book, what happened was “all a dream”! UGH!

Lying down on the couch.

1.) I have a horrible habit of not finishing books. This bugs me because sometimes they’re really good and I simply don’t finish.

2.) Sometimes it takes me way longer than it should to read. It’s not that I have a hard time reading, I just kind of put it off.

3.) Sometimes I can’t remember what happened in books that I loved.

I don’t think I ever have honestly. Like Kendra said, I’m more likely to feel like crying during a show or movie.

Just one: The Da Vinci Code

I don’t really eat while reading.

Everyone? I don’t know. Some books aren’t great for kids, but for adults…

1.) Dead Lines – Greg Bear

2.) The Unwanted – John Saul

3.) Fool Me Once – Harlan Coben

I’m gonna skip this one but you can see a picture of my bookshelf on May 28th as part of the May Book Challenge!

Way to relax.

Just that I don’t finish books a lot of times. But you already knew that, didn’t you? So none, really!

The Disney Book Tag!

I recently discovered this book tag over at Bookshelves and Biros. It was created originally by Booktuber, Katytastic! I thought I would participate!

The Little Mermaid

A character who is out of their element, a fish out of water.

Miles Teagarden in If You Could See Me Now! Everyone is constantly staring at him and wishing that he would leave when he revisits where he grew up. He is no longer welcome and everyone makes it clear!

A character who goes through a major transformation.

Jane in Sunday’s at Tiffany’s. She transforms from a self-conscious girl into a successful woman.

Snow White

A book with an eclectic cast of characters.

InkHeart! I haven’t read it in a while, but I know there were weird and cool characters in it! A very imaginative story!

Sleeping Beauty

Most classics! Seriously!

The Lion King

A character that had something traumatic happen to them in childhood.

Eric Cavanaugh in The Unwanted. He had a horrible childhood. His father was abusive and his mother didn’t do much to stop it.

A character that gets their wish granted, for better or worse.

I’m just going to say Maya Stern from Fool Me Once. She wanted to find out answers and she did…even if the answers were surprising and scary.

The Book Courtship Tag!

The Book Courtship Tag

I saw this tag on Michelle’s blog, Michelle, Books and Movies Addict and really wanted to participate! Please check out her wonderful blog!

Phase 1: Initial Attraction. A book that you bought because of the cover?

I try not to judge books by their cover. I know, lame joke! Anyway, I don’t think I ever bought a book based on how it looked.

Phase 2: First Impressions. A book that you got because of the summary?

Phase 3: Sweet Talk. A book with great writing?

Phase 4: First Date. A first book of a series which made you want to pick up the rest of the series?
Even though I do think they’re overrated (sorry guys!), I’m gonna go with the Harry Potter books. I did enjoy them when I was younger.
Phase 5: Late Night Phone Calls. A book that kept you up all night?
Phase 6: Always on my mind. A book you could not stop thinking about?
Seriously. Even when I was done, I was thinking about it!
Phase 7: Getting Physical. A book which you love the way it feels?
I can’t explain it, but the cover has a cool feeling to it.
Phase 8: Meeting the parents. A book which you would recommend to your family and friends?
Any of the above books and what I’m currently reading!
Phase 9: Thinking about the future. A book or series you know you will re-read many times in the future?
John Saul books. I really do love them!
Phase 10: Share the love. Who do you tag?

The Bohemian Rhapsody Book Tag!

Kat from Life and Other Disasters is always getting tagged for these awesome book tags! She tagged everyone so I decided to participate! Thanks Kat for sharing this great tag!

1. Mama, just killed a man – A fictional character’s death that really upset you?

I’m actually going to pick a movie for this one. I don’t want to give away who dies though, but someone dies in Independence Day and it kind of bums me out! The person dies fairly early on.

2. Carry on, carry on – Pick a book that was hard to keep reading but was worth it in the end?

Truth or Die by James Patterson. It took me forever to read for some reason, but it was good.

3. Sends shivers down my spine – pick a book with a beautiful spine/cover?

Ink Heart by Cornelia Funke!

4. Goodbye everybody, I’ve got to go – A book that you couldn’t finish?

It’s not that it wasn’t good (the part I read of it), I just couldn’t get into it for some reason. I will definitely try again though!

5. Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very frightening – which book did you find very, very frightening?

Hell Fire by John Saul. The imagery was great and the book was pretty creepy! My second choice would be Nathaniel by John Saul as well.

6. Bismillah, no! We will not let you go – which book/series do you wish there had been more of?

I don’t honestly know. More John Saul ghost books would be nice!

7. Mamma mia, mamma mia – which book/series should be made into a musical?

Interesting question. Ooh, maybe One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. I know they have a movie, but a musical might be cool!

8. The head banging bit – Which book made you face-palm?

A lot of Classics! Ugh!

9. Oh baby, can’t do this to me, baby – pick a moment from a book where you felt like the author was being mean to you?

Hmmm, I don’t know about feeling the author was mean to me, but while I was reading Hell Fire, I kept wondering how Beth’s step-sister and grandmother could be so mean! I couldn’t stand them!

10. Nothing really matters to me – which character/s did you not care about?

Polar Bears and Duane in If You Could See Me Now.

The Coffee Book Tag!

So Kat from Life and Other Disasters did another awesome book tag! I decided to take it upon myself to complete it as well. So, without further ado…here are the questions!

A series that’s tough to get into but has hardcore fans.

Hmmm…I’m gonna go with the Harry Potter books. I mean, they weren’t really hard to get into and I liked them at the time, but I feel they were overrated. Meanwhile, a lot of other people are in love with them!

I’m gonna cheat on this one…well, sort of. I don’t really read this book a lot, but I own it. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens!

A favorite children’s book.

I honestly don’t really have one. When I was younger though, I was in love with this Barney ant book!

A book that kept you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

I’m gonna name two here: Nathaniel and The Unwanted by John Saul! Great, suspenseful books!

A book you see everywhere.

Ha, this is funny because there is a Starbucks everywhere! When it comes to books though, I dunno. I hear about The Girl on the Train and stuff a lot.

A book by an indie author (a shoutout).

I simply don’t know.

A book you were expecting more from

I hate to say this (plus I’m not sure how fair it is to say, since I didn’t give the book much of a chance), but I couldn’t get into Harlan Coben’s Missing You. I’m not sure why, either. I just couldn’t get myself to keep reading. I will one day though!

A book or series that was both bitter and sweet, but ultimately satisfying.

I have the perfect one for this! One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey.

A book or series that is quietly beautiful.

I’m not sure what this means, but this is a nice romance book. Sunday’s at Tiffany’s by James Patterson (a good movie too, though mine broke! 😦  )

A book or series that makes you dream of far off places.

Well, maybe not of a real place, but Inkheart by Cornelia Funke is a good book abut the beautiful idea of characters coming to life.

Favorite classic.

I’m not really a fan of classics, so I’m just going to say One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. I don’t think it’s really considered a classic, but it’s an older book and really good (so is the movie by the way! I highly recommend it!)
