I: Inside Flap / Back of Book Summaries. Too much info? Or not enough? Discuss!

I think the back of the book gives just enough info but I don’t usually read the inside flap in case they give away too much.

N: New Book. Be Honest: Which format do you want it in? Audio, hardcover, paperback, or ebook?

100% Paperback.

S: Scribble While You Read? Do you write in your books, or keep them clean? Tell us why.

Keep it clean! The only writing that should be in a book is the author’s!

I: In Your Best Written Voice Read Us Your Favorite First Sentence From a Book.

I have no idea what my favorite sentence is right now!

D: Does It Matter to You Whether the Author is Male or Female when Deciding to Read a Book? What if you’re unsure of author’s gender?

I’ve always been drawn more to male authors. I know this is going to sound horrible (especially since I want to be an author), but I feel like women usually write romance and young adult stuff – two things I’m really not into. However, there have been books that I really liked and then found out that a woman wrote it after all!

E: Ever Read Ahead? Or have you read the last page before you got there?

Only when it came to some books for school. I’m sorry but some of those are just boring!

O: Organized Bookshelves or Outrageous Bookshelves?

Organized. However, if things aren’t perfect, that’s okay with me too.

U: Under Oath: Have You Ever Bought a Book Based On the Cover? … The Cover Alone?

Probably when I was younger. I wouldn’t do it now.

T: Take it Outside or Stay In?

Stay in. Reading outside can be okay at times though too.

The TBR Tag

I would like to thank The Bookish Underdog for nominating me for The TBR Tag! I’ve been stressed today and hopefully this will be something to get my mind off things!

Questions

1. How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

To be honest, I don’t really. I just kind of decide what I’m gonna read next. I don’t plan that far in advance when it comes to what I’m gonna read.

2. Is your TBR mostly print or e-book?

Print. I don’t really believe in reading e-books!

3. How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

I honestly just decide what I want to read next. Sometimes it’s a new book I just got or one I’m interested in reading again.

4. A book that’s been on your TBR list the longest?

Hmm…I have been thinking for a while that I want to read Dead Lines again since I always say it’s my favorite book. I tried reading it again once and I just couldn’t get into it.

5. A book you recently added to your TBR?

I just recently decided that I wanted to re-read Wicked.

6. A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover?

Honestly? None.

7. A book on your TBR that you never plan on reading?

I dunno.

8. An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for?

I really don’t know. Is it horrible to say that one day I hope to read my own book that people can buy on shelves at their bookstores?

9. A book on your TBR that everybody has read but you?

None really. Oddly enough, it seems that a lot of people have different interests when it comes to what types of books they like to read. A lot of people seem to read young adult books, which I’m not really interested in.

10. A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you?

Well, I recently had a blogger friend say that he was reading a book that sounded interested. I can’t remember the title at the moment though! Sorry!

11. A book on your TBR that you’re dying to read?

Again, I don’t really have a list. I do really want to re-read Wicked again though and Digital Fortress by Dan Brown. I also want to read The Gemini Contenders by Robert Ludlum. I started reading it once but didn’t get very far. I’d like to read it eventually!

12. How many books are on your Goodreads TBR shelf?

Don’t have one

Sorry if my answers were kind of lame! I don’t really have a TBR list. I just kind of decide what I want to read as I go along. I tag everyone who wants to participate!

This Or That Book Tag!

Makayla from Random Reads tagged everyone for the This or That Book Tag! Thanks, Makayla! This looks so interesting and fun!

This

The Rules:

  1. Mention the creator of the tag (Ayunda @Tea and Paperbacks).
  2. Thank the blogger who tagged you!
  3. Choose one of the options, you don’t have to tell the reasons why you chose that but you can also do them if you want to.
  4. Tag 10 other people to do this tag to spread the love!

One: Read on the Couch or On the Bed?

On the couch! I find my couch really comfy and relaxing, so what better place to read?

Two: Male Main Character or Female Main Character?

Most of the books I read have main characters who are men, so I’m going to go with that. Maybe I like the different perspective. I don’t know. Maybe it’s because men seem to write main characters who are men and well, most authors I read are men.

Three: Sweet Snacks or Salty Snacks?

I don’t eat when I read, but I’ll say salty. Why? Because I like chips and stuff! 🙂

Four:Trilogies or Quartets?

I’m more of a stand alone kinda gal when it comes to books.

Five: First Person Point of View or Third Person Point of View?

Third. Definitely third.

Six: Reading at Night or In The Morning?

Afternoon or night. I just find it easier and more fun to read then, I don’t know what else to say.

Seven: Libraries or Book Stores?

I’m gonna go with libraries because we don’t have a lot of bookstores where we live.

Eight: Books that Make You Laugh Or Cry?

I’m gonna go with laugh. I like when you’re reading and a character says something funny or an author says something that you can really relate to.

Nine: Black Book Covers Or White Book Covers?

This is an interesting question. Most of my books don’t have black or white covers. Most of my books have colorful covers.

Ten: Character Driven or Plot Driven Stories?

Tough question. I think I’ll go with plot driven.

-Tag three to five other bloggers (female or male, doesn’t matter).

1. What’s the ratio of female:male authors in your shelves? You don’t have to give an exact amount, just approximately

Okay this may sound awful since I’m a female, but the female to male ratio of authors on my book shelves is 25:75. I’m honestly not a huge fan of female writers (I know – horrible, especially since I want to be a writer!). Then again, some of James Patterson books are co-written with female authors and they’re great books!

2. Do you have any preconceived notions about female authors? EG: they only write YA or chicklit?

Well I know that it’s not true, but for the most part the books I’ve read that are written by females are for young adults. However, I’ve also read a lot of books that are meant for adults that are written by women too. I guess though that for the most part, I feel like they lack something. Again, I know that sounds awful.

3.) Who’s your favorite female author?

I’m not honestly sure that I have one. Let’s say Cornelia Funke though. When I was younger, I liked The Thief Lord and Ink Heart by her.

4. Have you ever read a comic or a graphic novel written and illustrated by a woman?

I don’t believe so. I used to read Rave Master but that was written by a male. Man, I’m not doing well here!

5. Have you read any LGBT books?

Nope

6. Have you read a book by a female author of colour?

Yes, many. I took an African American Lit. class in college. I can’t remember all of the authors’ names but I do know that I liked some of the stories. I believe I read some of Toni Morrison’s work.

7. Have you read any feminist Non fiction books?

I don’t read nonfiction.

8. Who is your favourite female character? Someone strong and role model-ish

Maybe Jane Margaux from Sunday’s at Tiffany’s? The book is by James Patterson and Gabrielle Charbonnet. Jane has to deal with a lot of negativity from her mother, but she’s tough and successful. Also a lot of characters that I’ve read about in my African American Literature course were admirable.

9. Is there a really popular female author that you haven’t read at all?

Ha, tons! Veronica Roth and Daniel Steele are just a couple. I don’t know, I’ve always just read more books written by males.

10. Is there a popular non feminist book that you really enjoyed?

I’m not sure how to answer this.

The Snack Food Book Tag!

Once again, the wonderful The Bookish Underdog has tagged me! Thank you so much! This time, I’ve been tagged for The Snack Food Book Tag created by Lucia.

1. Chocolate-Covered Pretzels: A book couple you never thought would work/get together?

I’m gonna go with Miles and Alison (the second Alison) from If You Could See Me Now.

2. Prunegales (see what I did there? the name is trademarked so I couldn’t use it): An addictive book you can’t get enough of?

So I’ve only read it once, but The Unwanted by John Saul was really good. I know I’ve mentioned this book before, but hey, what are you gonna do? A good book is a good book!

3. Trail mix: A book with a variety of characters?

I’m sorry, I’m sorry, but I have to go with If You Could See Me Now again. There were tons of people in that book!

4. Fruit bowls: An unpredictable character?

Eric Cavanaugh from The Unwanted. Seriously.

5. Nut Bar: Your go-to book?

I’m just going to say any James Patterson or Harlan Coben book.

6. Popcorn: A character you can’t help but like?

I know this is a book tag, but I’m going to go with a movie villain and a mean character from a movie. I love Linoge as a bad guy from Storm of the Century (in all fairness, this was also turned into a screenplay) and Richard Dees from The Night Flier (also a movie from a Stephen King story). While one’s…well…evil and one’s and a*s hole, they’re played really well!

The YA Frenzy Book Tag!

I was just tagged by The Bookish Underdog for The YA Frenzy Book Tag! Thank you so much!

Rules are as follows-

  • Respond to mine and icebreaker694’s post in comments (so we know if you can participate).
  • Read through Q&A below.
  • Answer the questions in your own post 😄.
  • Choose at least 3 to 5 other bloggers to participate!

1. What book got you started on the path of YA?

While I’m not really a fan of young adult novels, I did read the Harry Potter series (though I feel it’s a bit overrated). However, I took Young Adult Literature in college and I did enjoy a few of the books. I found that I really enjoyed To Kill a Mockingbird. Also, in another college class, I read One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest which I loved. So, I would say that those two got me somewhat interested.

List 3 awesome book related gifs (they can be from the movies or they can just have someone reading in them) and add your own captions.

When newspapers tell you what the books are about! Why do they do that?!

When you haven’t read in a while, and then you read a really good book!

When a book is so good, you get lost in it!

3. What was the latest series you finished?

I don’t really read series and like I said, I’m not a huge YA book fan. The last book I read though was If You Could See Me Now and I definitely recommend it!

4. What is one thing that you hate in YA? What is one thing you love?

I hate how childish some of the books sound. I’m sorry, but I’m an adult and I want to read books written for adults. I love how you get a new perspective on things. Since the books are written for young adults, you kind of get to see how the author wants the book perceived. Plus, you feel a little younger again.

5. Take this Buzzfeed quiz (‘Are You Able to Identify the Real YA Cover from the Fake?’) and post your results.

Are You Able To Identify The Real YA Cover From The Fake?

You got 7 out of 10 right!
You did better than 31% of those who took this quiz!
  1. Silver Bookworm

You have a good eye for most of these YA covers, but you stumbled on a few. But that’s OK — it’s just another excuse to spend more time in the aisles of Barnes and Noble.

Totally Should Have…Book Tag

totally

So I discovered this tag on Kat’s blog, Life and Other Disasters, and thought I would participate!

TOTALLY SHOULD’VE…GOTTEN A SEQUEL:

I think I’m going to go with The Unwanted by John Saul. I definitely would have liked to know what happened after the end of the book.

TOTALLY SHOULD’VE…HAD A SPIN OFF SERIES:

Maybe If You Could See Me Now by Peter Straub. I think it would be cool to see what they did after the end of the book and have a series of adventures between the two characters at the end. I can’t say much more without giving away what the first book was about. I definitely recommend you read it by the way!

AN AUTHOR WHO TOTALLY SHOULD’VE…WRITTEN MORE BOOKS:

John Saul. I know he wrote quite a few books, but I think he should have written more. Also, I think he should have written more ghost stories because the ones I read were amazing!

A CHARACTER WHO TOTALLY SHOULD’VE… ENDED UP WITH SOMEONE ELSE:

I’m not quite sure. I’m going to go with Miles from If You Could See Me Now. I guess I just wish he could have found true happiness.

TOTALLY SHOULD’VE…HAD A MOVIE FRANCHISE:

I’m just going to say two separate books and yes, their both by John Saul. The Unwanted, Hell Fire, and Nathaniel were all GREAT books. I would have loved to see movies created from them!

TOTALLY SHOULD’VE…HAD A TV SHOW:

I’m going to go with Truth or Die by James Patterson. I think it would have been cool to tune in every week and watch the adventures of the two main characters.

TOTALLY SHOULD’VE…HAD ONLY ONE POINT OF VIEW:

I’m skipping this one. I have no idea.

TOTALLY SHOULD’VE…HAD A COVER CHANGE:

I actually own a much cooler copy of this book with a different cover! I can’t seem to find it online though. Anyway, I’m not a fan of this one…I don’t even understand it.

TOTALLY SHOULD’VE…KEPT THE ORIGINAL COVERS:

Again, I’m going to skip this one.

TOTALLY SHOULD’VE…STOPPED AT BOOK ONE:

I’m not really sure. I will say though that while I read Ink Heart, I never read the ones to follow.

The Friends Book Tag!

friends

Okay so Kat at Life and Other Disasters did this awesome book tag! My favorite TV show is Friends so I couldn’t pass it by. However, instead of doing all books, I might do some shows/movies as well. So without further ado, here are the questions!

THE ONE WHERE EDDIE WON’T GO – A CHARACTER I WISH WOULD JUST GO AWAY:

Eric Cavanaugh’s father in The Unwanted by John Saul. I can’t remember the father’s name at the moment, but I HATE him! He’s a total a** and the whole time I just wanted him to die. Of course, there are a few characters in that book like that, but Eric’s father takes the cake!

THE ONE WHERE ROSS AND RACHEL TAKE A BREAK – FAVORITE BREAK UP SCENE:

This is hard. Can I pick Friends when Ross and Rachel take a break? The part where Ross is kissing Rachel and trying to make her forgive him but she can’t makes me almost cry. I guess I would be cheating to pick that though. Ah…what the heck!? I pick that scene for now. If I come up with anything else, I’ll let you know!

THE ONE WITH ALL THE KISSING – A BOOK WITH LOTS OF KISSING:

Oh jeez, another tough one. I don’t really read a lot of books where there’s a lot of kissing honestly. Let’s just go with the beginning of Truth or Die by James Patterson. There’s not that much kissing, but it’s all I could come up with! Sorry! There’s a lot of kissing in the TV show One Tree Hill though!

THE LAST ONE – FAVORITE SERIES FINALE:

Ha, this is funny because when it comes to shows, it’s Friends for sure! However, when it comes to books, I’d have to go with The Unwanted again because the ending was so unexpected!

THE ONE WITH A BLACKOUT – A SCENE I’D LIKE TO FORGET:

Hmm…I’m gonna go with a scene from the movie Bag of Bones. It was really creepy. If you watch the movie, maybe you’ll know what I mean. I don’t want to ruin it by saying.

I’m adding a book scene to this. I just started reading Shadows by John Saul and there’s this really graphic scene that I really wish I wouldn’t have read. :/

THE ONE WHERE CHANDLER CAN’T CRY – A BOOK THAT DID NOT MAKE YOU AS EMOTIONAL AS OTHERS:

Ooh, while maybe not “emotional” as in sad, I’m going to define emotional in this case as a book I didn’t think was as good as everyone thought. Now I know this will upset a lot of fans, but the Harry Potter series! I read most of the books and while they were written pretty well, I wasn’t as in love with them as everyone else was!

THE ONE WHERE JOEY DOESN’T SHARE FOOD – A BOOK YOU WON’T EVER LEND:

Wow, this seems like such a harsh question! Maybe Deadlines by Greg Bear because when asked, I always say it’s my favorite (even though I haven’t read it in a while). Either that or Nathaniel. Also, I once lent a book to someone and that didn’t go well so I bought another copy. Chances are I wouldn’t lend out that one again either!

By the way, The One Where Joey Doesn’t Share Food is a GREAT episode! 🙂

THE ONE WITH THE THUMB – A RECENT READ THAT YOU WOULD GIVE TWO THUMBS UP TO:

Hellfire! You can read my review here!

THE ONE WITH THE ICK FACTOR – A BOOK WITH A PET PEEVE:

Okay, I’m TOTALLY going with a movie here. The Wizard of Oz! I hate when in books, movies, or TV shows, something happens and it ends up being all a dream! UGH!

THE ONE WITH THE LESBIAN WEDDING – FAVORITE LGBTQ BOOK COUPLE:

I feel horrible, but I can’t think of one at the moment!
