  1. Why did you begin writing/blogging?
    • It was suggested to me that I do so by my dad and therapist. They thought it would help me with my anxiety. I wanted to help both myself and others.
  2. What is your favorite pass time?
    • Writing! I love watching TV as well.
  3. What is your favorite school memory?
    • Wow, this one is hard! Maybe when I came up with an idea in my Creative Writing class? My teacher thought it was awesome and I had an article in the school newsletter written up on it! I also got to go to New York City in high school, which was pretty awesome!
  4. Do you have a best friend or multiple best friends?
    • I have a few really good friends
  5. What is your favorite daydream?
    • That I’m a bestselling author!
  6. What is your worst nightmare?
    • That I never overcome my anxiety
  7. How many countries have you traveled to?
    • None

    • Italy

    • Dead Lines by Greg Bear! It’s a great horror story!

1.) I’m officially a published author! How awesome is that?!

2.) I’m the type of person that when I see a dog, I immediately think of what I would name it!

Have you had a crush on your teacher as a teenager?

Yes, definitely. Hey, I had a lot of cute teachers!

If you had the power to change one thing in your past, what would that be?

I would somehow get a hold on my anxiety before it took over so much control of my life.

Which country is your next dream vacation, and what made you want to go there?

Italy! For one thing my great grandma was from Sicily, plus I love the artwork in Italy. I took an Art History class in college and fell in love with some of the paintings.

Do you think it is okay to keep secrets even between best friends?

Yes, as long as they’re not harmful.

If you could be transformed into something else, what would be your preference, and why?

I immediately think of a dog, but sometimes they’re treated like crap. Plus, they can’t talk and everything. I don’t know…hard question!

It All Began When…

My dad and therapist recommended me to write about my anxiety. They told me it would be a great way to help both myself and others.

My Advice To You…

1.) Write about what you want – Don’t worry about getting tons of attention. Write about what means a lot to you and hopefully you’ll get readers who appreciate your work. I know I did!

2.) Connect with others but be careful! – This is super important. I think it’s great and important to make friends and connections, but at the same time, you need to make sure you’re being safe. Don’t give out too much personal information and make sure that you’re watching what you tell others.

In the Beginning…

I started this blog after it was recommended by my therapist to talk about my experiences with my anxiety. He thought that it would help both me and others who go through similar issues. My dad also recommended several times that I write about my mental health and that it might be helpful. I’m happy to say that he was right!

Some Advice:

I think it’s really important to write about what’s important to you. Don’t get me wrong, it’s important to recognize what’s important to others, but your blog should be something that you’re proud of and should be about subjects that are close to your heart. ‘Likes’, comments, and follows are great but you shouldn’t write just so that you can become ‘popular’. You should write because you feel you have something important to say and because what you write about makes you happy or proud. Also, I think it’s important that you become involved with other blogs and bloggers. Be careful about sharing information, but at the same time don’t be afraid to share your experiences in a safe way. Just like Stephanie mentions, sharing and communicating with others in the blogosphere is an important step in being connected with those around you! Another piece of advice is to remember to thank those who show their support!

Why did you start a blog in the first place?

  • I started Getting Through Anxiety so that I could help both myself and others. Through sharing my experiences, I hope that I can show others that they are not alone and offer support.

What is your favorite book?

What do you dislike the most?

  • I’d have to say people misunderstanding my anxiety and what I go through. I’ve heard people say so many untrue things and it really hurts. I also hate cruelty in general.

What is your favorite food item from the mall?

  • Just like Tabbi, I don’t really go to malls at the moment due to my anxiety. However, when I used to, I loved the Cinnamon soft pretzels from Auntie Anne’s. The funny thing is that I HATE the plain ones!

I’m not really a fan of sports but I’d have to go with tennis.

  1. What do you enjoy most about blogging?
    • Helping both myself and others through sharing my experiences with anxiety along with advice on how to get through my struggles.
  2. What are you most afraid of?
    • Getting physically hurt, my anxiety not going away, not being able to live the life I want due to my anxiety
  3. How would you describe your paradise?
    • Instead of a place I’m going to describe a lifestyle. My paradise would be living without anxiety (or being able to manage it better), being a professional writer, being married, having a dog, and maybe some kids.
  4. Do your friends and family know you blog?
    • Some of them do, yes. Others don’t.
  5. What’s the one thing you wish you could write about, but you don’t feel comfortable actually writing about?
    • Sometimes I could be more specific about the anxiety I suffer with, but it’s extremely personal.

My Story:

I started my blog because I was told that I should write about my anxiety. My dad actually had told me that I should write about it and my therapist gave me the idea to blog about it. My therapist told me that not only would it help get my thoughts out, but it might also help me connect with and help others who struggle with anxiety as well. He was right. I’ve learned so much from blogging. I’ve learned that there are a lot of people who struggle with mental health issues, that I have the ability to help others, and that blogging is great for making connections and friends!

My Advice:

  • Write about what you want – I know it’s tempting to write about what everyone else likes, but it’s important that you’re happy with what you write about. If you want to blog about mental health, go for it. If you want to blog about your love for books, go right ahead! Write about what you want!
  • Make connections but stay safe – Making connections and friends is a great thing. However, at the same time, make sure you don’t give out too much personal information. You can never be too safe!
